The Tampa Bay Rays hope to cool down the surging Baltimore orioles at Tropicana Field on Saturday.
The Baltimore Orioles have been racking up the wins and have yet to come back down to earth. The Orioles have won eight of ten with both the pitching and scoring generally having been on the same page. Baltimore suffered a rare setback in a 3-0 loss at Tampa Bay Friday which squandered a strong effort on the hill from We-Yin Chen who tossed six scoreless frames before the pen allowed three runs in the 8th. The Orioles offense never got going on just six hits and a base on balls. The Orioles send Kevin Gausman to the mound versus the Tampa Bay Rays in game two of their series. Gausman is looking for consistency and has gone 7-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 16 outings.

The Tampa Bay Rays looked like a very dangerous squad before heading in to the All Star break but have been in slow downward slide since. The Rays had dropped seven of ten with Baltimore in town Friday before some late scoring and outstanding work on the mound got them in the win column. Starter Alex Cobb tossed six shutout frames to get the win thanks to Ryan Hannigan's two run single while Yunel Escobar rapped an RBI single and scored. Left hander Drew Smyly opposes the dangerous offense of the Baltimore Orioles for the second time in 2014. Smyly has been at the top of his game the past three times out where he is 2-0 with a 1.25 ERA.
I don't know which Gausman shows up because the good one won't have an issue with the Rays offense. Smyly has been great lately and if Tampa scores he might win but I'm not sure I can bet the Rays punchless attack...
