The Chicago White Sox host the Oakland Athletics at U.S. Cellular Field in Monday night action.
The Oakland Athletics were the hunted in the American League West for the majority of 2014 but are now the hunters who are chasing the Angels. The Athletics dropped another game in the standings while blowing a pair of leads in a 4-3 loss to visiting Houston on Sunday. Jason Hammel was strong on the mound with a pair of runs plated over 6.2 frames before Ryan Cook took the loss with a pair of 9th inning runs scored. The A's received a two run bomb from Nate Frieman with Derek Norris driving in another. The Athletics are scheduled to send Sonny Gray to the mound for his first career start against the Chicago White Sox. Gray struggled in his last outing in a 6-5 loss to Seattle with all six runs scored in five frames.

The Chicago White Sox have been struggling to put up runs and that has been an always present problem and was a big issue at Cleveland over the weekend. A 2-0 defeat on Sunday meant the White Sox scored twice in three games and squandered a great perfomance on the mound from Scott Carroll. Carroll tossed one of his best games with both runs allowed through seven innings but all it did was end up as a loss. The bats never got going with only four hits to lean on so they never threatened to score. Hector Noesi will open the series on the bump for his second career start versus the Oakland Athletics. Noesi has been either good or bad and was the former the last time time out with three runs scored in seven frames of a 6-3 win at Minnesota.
Oakland is tough to back as a big favorite because they are not winning and Chicago's record says why they are tough to back. I won't lay the chalk with the A's although the odds say they probably win...
