The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Tuesday in Washington in game two of their series with big post season implications.
The Washington Nationals continued to build their lead in the NL East as they beat he Braves on Monday. Adam LaRoche had two hits and Ian Desmond and Denard Span had hits as the Nationals scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed two hits and struck out three over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise their record to 13-6 and Drew Storen earned his third save of the year. For Tuesday’s game the Braves start Jordan Zimmerman who has won hos last four decisions. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 168 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 156 over 172 innings for a 10-5 record and a 2.93 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves just had no answers for the Nationals as they took the loss and a blow to their post season hopes. Freddie Freeman had two hits and Tommy La Stella and Ryan Doumit each had hits as the Braves scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher Mike Minor allowed seven hits and two ruins while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-10 for the season. For Tuesdya’s game the Braves start Ervin Santana who has won seven of his last eight decisions. For the season Santana has allowed 168 hits and 70 earned runs while striking out 159 over 174.1 innings for a 14-7 record and a 3.61 ERA.
Washington is 13-3 in their last 16 home games, 7-3 in game two of a series, and 53-23 in Zimmerman’s last 76 starts. Atlanta is 12-6 in their last 18 games in Washington.
This is a tough one as Santana has been strong but he has been better at home and the Nats are just the better team and my choice here.
