The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies face off on Friday in St. Louis for game one of their weekend series of MLB action.
The St. Louis Cardinals are in control of the NL Central but with the Pittsburgh Pirates charging hard they have far from wrapped it up. The Cardinals are 44-28 at home, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have lost three games in a row. As a team the Cards are hitting .255 with Matt Adams hitting .291, Jon Jay hitting .314, and Yadier Molina hitting .280. The Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.62 with the starters and bullpen both having ERA’s of 3.62. For game one against the Rockies St. Louis starts Adam Wainwright who has won his last two starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 168 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 156 over 203 innings for a 17-9 record and a 2.62 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies are having a miserable season as they hope to at least finish strong. The Rockies are 20-52 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have lost three games in a row. As a team the Rockies are hitting .274 with Justin Morneau hitting .317, Nolan Arenado hitting .291, and Charlie Blackmon hitting .284. The Rockies pitching staff has an ERA of 4.88 with the starters at 4.87 and the bullpen at 4.89. For game one against the Cardinals the Rockies start Jorge De La Rosa who has lost his last two decisions. For the season De la Rosa has allowed 148 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 123 over 166.1 innings for a 13-10 record and a 4.27 ERA.
St. Louis is 5-0 in their last five home games, 9-4 in their last 13 games, and 50-24 in Wainwright’s last 74 starts. Colorado is 25-51 in their last 72 games, 7-24 in game one of a series, and 0-6 in De La Rosa’s last six road starts. Colorado is 1-4 in their last five games in St. Louis.
While Wainwright has been far from easy money nor worthy of the steep odds he sees I do see the Cardinals as the better option here in a game I am probably going to stay away from.
