The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers continue their fight for first in the NL West.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are fighting to hold on to a narrow lead in the NL West although they have been doing their part with wins in seven of ten heading in to the series opener on Friday. A tight race got tighter after the Dodgers dropping a 9-0 decision at AT&T Park in the series opener. Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up four runs in one inning with Carlos Frias and Kevin Correia combined to let in five. That was a bit too much for a three hit, two walk attack to counter. San Francisco turns to Zack Greinke to cool off the bats of the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Greinke has been a reliable piece of the Dodgers pitching staff with a 14-8 record and 2.73 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants looked dead in the water around the All Star break but have done a good job of regrouping and putting themselves in a position to challenge for the National League West crown. The Giants position improved further following Friday's victory behind plenty of offense and shutdown pitching from Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner improved to 18-9 with eight scoreless innings while whiffing nine. SF pounded out 12 hits and walked five times that saw Brandon Crawford and Travis Ishikawa homer and drive in three runs apiece. Veteran Tim Hudson opposes the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second time on the season on Saturday. Hudson threw the ball well in a 6-1 loss at Detroit with three runs plated over six innings.
I think Greinke gives the Dodgers the advantage on the mound over Hudson but I prefer the San Francisco offense and hopefully they can put up some runs once again...
