The Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners continue their battle for second in AL West.
The Oakland Athletics appeared to be on the way to an AL West title but nothing has been going right for the A's who are now barely clinging to second. The gap narrowed to just a single game following Friday's 4-2 loss at Safeco Field with the arms and bats coming up short. Jason Hammel allowed three runs over five innings pitched to get the loss while the bats mustered just six hits. Josh Donaldson and Sam Fuld drove in the runs with Fuld also scoring. Oakland is hoping Sonny Gray get get back in the win column versus the Seattle Mariners Saturday. Gray has been an important part of the Athletics rotation with a 13-8 record and 3.22 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners are right in the thick of the Wild Card race but have to avoid a losing streak of any length. Seattle had dropped three of four before Friday's bout versus the A's so their win was obviously huge. The Mariners got a lift on the mound from James Paxton who gave up both runs (one earned) while striking out eight through six innings. The long ball won it with Logan Morrison, Kendrys Morales and Robinson Cano launching solo bombs while Mike Zunino doubled in another. The Mariners turn to Felix Hernandez to get Seattle a win over the visiting Oakland Athletics. Hernandez is putting up steller numbers once again with a 14-5 record and 2.12 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP.
I think the Mariners have the right guy on the mound in Hernandez although Gray is no slouch. I just like the way Seattle has been playing...
