The Philadelphia Phillies match up with the San Diego Padres squareoff in the series finale' Thursday.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been stumbling over the last several weeks with most of the blame falling on the offense that hasn't been scoring consistently. Theoffense finally gave starter Cole Hamels something to work with in a 5-2 decision at Petco Park Wednesday. Hamels got the win with a run plated over seven frames while striking out nine. Ben Revere and Freddy Galvis paced the offense with a pair of runs knocked in. Kyle Kendrick gets the ball in the last game of the series versus the San Diego Padres Thursday. Kendrick has stuggled through 2014 with a 9-12 record and 4.72 ERA over 30 outings.

With the San Diego Padres goal of a winning record no longer viable, the team is finishing out the regular season in a positive way. The Padres didn't get the job done Wednesday with both the hitting and pitching coming up short. Erick Stults threw four scoreless innings before running in to trouble in the 5th with four runs scored on six hits as he left after recording one out in the inning. San Diego had a pretty good night at the plate with nine hits and three bases on balls with Cameron Maybin and Alexi Amarista driving in runs. The Padres hand the ball the ball to Robbie Erlin who opposes the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time in 2014. Erlin has thrown the ball well the last three times out with a 2-0 record and 2.45 ERA.
Not much to choose from here in my view with neither team having an advantage in any area. I'll take the Padres but I have zero interest here...
