The St Louis Cardinals host the rival Cincinnati Reds in National League Central action Friday.
The Cincinnati Reds season from a competitive standpoint has been on the rocks for awhile but you can bet they would like nothing better then to hammer St Louis this weekend. Is so the Reds need to snap a four game skid after a 3-1 loss versus the Cubs Wednesday has the offense staring at three runs in this stretch. Starter Daniel Corcino gave up a pair of runs on three hits and four BB over 5.2 innings to absorb the loss with the Cincinnati offense getting an RBI from Yorman Rodriguez and nothing else. David Holmberg makes his 4th career start and first ever versus the St Louis Cardinals in game one of their series on Friday. Holmberg is 1-1 with an ERA of six with a 1.72 WHIP over 18 innings.

The St Louis Cardinals finally took over the top spot in the National League Central but there is no time for celebration with the Pirates still in their shadows with over a week left in the season. The Cards have won four of five after a pitching dominated 2-0 victory over visiting Milwaukee on Wednesday. Adam Wainwright was at the top of his game and needed to be with a complete game seven hitter with seven strikeouts to up his record to 19-9. The Redbirds totaled only three hits with Jhonny Peralta driving the only earned run of the game. Veteran John Lackey makes his second straight start against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night. Lackey is hoping for a much better outcome after he gave up a pair of runs on four hits over two frames of a 4-2 defeat.
St Louis needs this game badly and while I am not the biggest John Lackey fan the Cardinals are in first for na reason and I'll give them the edge...
