The Tampa Bay Rays welcome the Chicago White Sox to Tropicana Field to begin a weekend set Friday.
The Chicago White Sox were one of the hottest teams in the American League Central a week ago but have dropped three of four since after a 6-2 defeat at Kansas City on Wednesday. Starter Chris Sale suffered through a rare off night with five runs plated on nine hits including a pair of homers over five frames to fall to 12-5 on the year. The bats generated five hits and two bases on balls with Adam Eaton and Alexei Ramirez driving in runs. Left hander Jose Quintana gets the call to the mound versus the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time in 2014. Quintana has been sharp the last three trips to the hill with 2-0 record and 1.80 ERA.

The Tampa Bay Rays are still hopeful of finishing 2014 with a .500 record but with little more then a week remaining in the regular season they will have to be nearly perfect. The Rays saw a three game winning streak end byy a 3-2 count Wednesday to the Yankees as the offense squandered a solid pitching effort. Alex Cobb gave up all three runs on four hits and a trio of free passes to fall to 9-8. The Rays mustered five hits and a pair of walks with Evan Longoria blasting a two run homer that scored David DeJesus. Tampa Bay is hoping for a strong outing from Jeremy Hellickson when he opposes the Chicago White Sox for the first time this season. Hellickson is 1-3 on the year with a 3.63 ERA in eleven starts.
The better team at home is probably the way most people look at this and is what I'm looking at but I don't like Hellickson enough to bet them...
