The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Saturday for game two of their series.
The St. Louis Cardinals are still trying to wrap up the NL Central and they took a step closer on Friday beating the Reds. Randal Grichuk and Matt Holliday each hit home runs and Yadier Molina nad Matt Adams each had hits as the Cardinals scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed six hits and a run while striking out five over 7.2 innings to get the win and Seth Maness earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Michael Wacha who is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in his last thee starts and 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA for the season.

The Cincinnati Reds went into a tailspin the second half of the season and it continued Friday as they lost to the Cardinals. Brandon Phillips had two hits as did Zack Cozart while Devin Meraco added a hit but the reds scored just one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher David Holmberg allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who is 11-12 with a 3.65 ERA for the season and he is 1-1 with a 7.31 ERA in his last three starts.
St. Louis is 6-1 in their last seven games, 23-8 as a home favorite, and 9-2 in Wacha’s last 11 starts. Cincinnati is 7-28 in their last 35 road games, 0-5 in their last five games, and 0-4 in Leake’s last four road games. Cincinnati is 18-43 in their last 61 games in St. Louis.
I don’t really like this one because Wacha has just been hit and miss but St. Louis does have the edge here and they are the play.
