The Atlanta Braves host the Pittsburgh Pirates in game one of their weekday series on Monday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates postseason hopes come down to the final week of the regular season and whether the pitching and hitting continue to produce. The Pirates are off to a good start with Sunday's 1-0 decision over visiting Milwaukee. Starter Vance Worley threw his best game of the season with a five hit shutout over eight frames to get the win. The bats posted five hits and walked three times with Russell Martin singling in Andrew McCutchen. Left hander Francisco Liriano looks to stay hot when he takes the hill against the Atlanta Braves for the second time. Liriano has been red hot with a combined three runs scored in his last five starts.

The Atlanta Braves have gone through long period where the runs have been difficult to come by and right now no area has come up big. That trend continued in a 10-2 defeat in the final game of the series with the New York Mets. Ervin Santana was charged with five runs in five frames with Gus Schlosser allowing four late runs to put this one out of reach. The offense mustered four hits and three base on balls with Andrelton Simmons and Emilio Bonafacio driving in runs. The Braves send Aaron Harang out to face the Pittsburgh Pirates for the second time in 2014. Harang has been outstanding the past two times out with three runs plated on eleven hits over 14 innings.
Pittsburgh is scortching hot and the Braves are sliding so for me I am backing the hot team with the postseason still within their grasp...
