The New York Mets open a series with the streaking Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.
The New York Mets are in the midst of their best season in recent memory with a shot at a winning record and second place in the NL East still within reach. The Mets swept away Atlanta 10-2 on Sunday behind solid pitching and some rare offense. Jacob deGrom improved to 9-6 with both runs plated (one earned) on three hits over six innings while striking out ten. Ruben Tejada homered and drove in two while Anthony Recker went 3-3 with three RBI's. The Mets send veteran Bartolo Colon to the hill to oppose the Washington Nationals in the series opener. Colon is coming off of a 9-1 win over Miami where he allowed a run on 12 hits in 7.2 frames.

The Washington Nationals have left the rest of the National League East in their wake as there is nobody within shouting distance. The red hot Nationals have won eight of ten following a 2-1 victory at Miami Sunday that completed the sweep. Starter Stephen Strasburg was in top form with a three hit shutout through seven innings which was enough to up his record to 13-11. The offense totaled eight hits with Anthony Rendon and Nate Schierholtz recording RBI's. Tanner Roark gets the ball in the series opener versus the New York Mets whom he has seen three times in 2014. Roark is 2-1 the last three times out with a combined five runs allowed over 19.1 innings.
I'm favoring the Nationals here but the price is expensive and they don't win big so it's a risky bet and probably not worth it...
