The Cleveland Indians welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to Progressive Field on Friday night.
The Tampa Bay Rays mid season run never had enough steam to overcome a slow start so the Rays are playing out the string. The Rays had a night to forget on Thursday with an 11-1 loss at Boston. Nothing went well with Jeremy Hellickson falling to 1-5 with six runs scored on eight hits over 2.1 frames while the pen failed to stop the bleeding. The Rays fell behind early and neve got going at the plate with eight hits with Ben Zobrist knocking in Ryan Hanigan with the lone run. The Rays give the series opening start to Chris Archer who has faced the Cleveland Indians once. On the season Archer is 10-8 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.30 WHIP covering 31 outings.

The Cleveland Indians need to win out and hope Kansas City and Oakland both lose out or the postseason is history. The Indians kept their playoff hopes alive with a 6-4 victory over the Royals on Wednesday night. The Tribe rebounded from a poor outing from starter Trevor Bauer who allowed four runs on eight hits and three bases on balls through four innings with four relievers holding of the KC offense. The Tribe totaled seven hits and walked six times with Yan Gomes leading the comeback with a three run jack. Corey Kluber takes the ump versus the Tampa Bay Rays for the second time. Kluber is 17-9 with a 2.53 ERA in 33 starts.
The Indians still have a chance of reaching the postseason with Oakland losing but they have to wiin and hope the A's lose again...
