The New York Mets and the Houston Astros face off on Friday at Citi Field for game one of their interleague season ending series.
The New York Mets have a chance to finish in second place in the NL East and while they are way off of the pace to make the post season it is at least a small step forward. The Mets are 38-40 at home, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and are coming off of a loss on Thursday. As a team the Mets are hitting .239 Daniel Murphy hitting .292, David Wright hitting .269, and Lucas Duda hitting .253. For Friday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who is 9-11 with a 3.50 ERA and 1-1 with a 2.14 ERA in his last three starts.
USA TODAY Sports
The Houston Astros have had an up and down season but they appear to have things looking up going forward. The Astors are 31-47 on the road, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last three. As a team the Astros are hitting .242 with Jose Altuve hitting .343, Dexter Fowler hitting .273, and Chris Carter hitting .228. For game one in New York the Astros start Brad Peacock who is 4-9 with a 4.82 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his last three starts.
New York is 4-0 in their last four interleague games against a right-handed starter, 13-4 as a home favorite, and 5-2 in Niese’s last seven interleague starts. Houston is 20-50 as an interleague underdog, 2-7 in their last nine games, and 2-8 in Peacock’s last 10 road starts. Houston is 10-23 in their last 33 games in New York.
The total is set at 7.5 and I like the under here as both of these pitchers will battle in their last start of the year.
