The San Diego Padres continue their series with the San Francisco Giants at AT&T park.
The San Diego Padres have been playing well and could ruin the home field advantage for San Francisco with a strong series. After watching the Padres rally from a 6-0 deficit to take an 8-6 lead and then watch Alexander Torres give back three runs I know two things that haven't changed; relievers are still awful and picking SD to win is always shaky. Throw in that Andrew Cashner was smacked around for six runs over five innings and a rare offensive explosion was wasted. Rene Rivera and Will Venable left the yard while Yasmani Grandel homered twice in the loss. Ian Kennedy shoots for his third consecutive victory when he faces the San Francisco Giants Friday. Kennedy has won back back starts with a combined five runs allowed over 12.2 innings.

The San Francisco Giants aren't challenging for the National League because of defeats in five of six. Home field in the Wild Card is still up for grabs and Giants offense kept the team in the mix with Thursday's win. Starter Yusmeiro Petit served up a couple of homers and three runs through 5.1 innings before Jean Machi and Javier Lopez gave up five runs. Pablo Sandoval paced the attack with four RBI's with Brandon Belt going deep and driving in two while Brandon Crawford went solo. San Francisco is scheduled to start Ryan Vogelsong who opposes the San Diego Padres for the second time. Vogelsong has been a bit all over the map in 2014 with an 8-12 record and 3.95 ERA.
I'm not going in to advantages and who has them because it doesn't matter at this point because I'll go with the better team. Can't stomach guessing if a reliever can get an out with San Diego leading late again...
