The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants meet in game three of their weekend series.
The San Diego Padres look to end the season with a few more victories in what has been a promising year. They took a positive step with a 4-1 victory over at AT&T Park on Friday behind adequate hitting and outstanding pitching. Starter Ian Kennedy was dominant with an unearned run plated over seven frames to improve to 13-13. The bats posted nine hits and a trio of BB with Rene Rivera going 2-4 with a pair of runs knocked in. Eric Stults gets the call to the mound for Saturday's battle with the San Francisco Giants. Stults is riding the momentum of a 1-0 victory versus Colorado where he tossed 6.1 scoreless innings.

The San Francisco Giants hope to head in to the Wild Card with a full head of steam with solid performances in all areas. The Giants have to win to maintain home field in the Wild Card now after losing Friday. I don't think we'll see starter Ryan Vogelsong too much if the Giants go deep in to the postseason because he's not dependable after allowing all four runs on six hits and a pair of base on balls to fall to 8-13. The offense didn't help the situation with Brandon Crawford's sac fly plating Brandon Belt with the only run. Veteran Jake Peavy hopes to stay hot when he toes the rubber against the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Peavy has not allowed more then two runs in eight consecutive trips to the mound.
This game has meaning for San Francisco so I'll be looking at them because Peavy is at his best right now...
