The Pittsburgh Pirates look for a win over the Cincinnati Reds on the final day of the regular season to keep their Central title hopes alive.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been winning day after day and have been right on the tail of St Louis in the battle for first in the Central. The Buccos drive to claim the Central crown continued despite a 10-6 ten inning loss to the Reds with the Cards also losing. Francisco Liriano gave up four runs and John Holdzkom gave up two before John Axford served up the GS. Jordy Mercer went deep and drove in two with Neil Walker knocking in three. Gerrit Cole gets the season ending start versus the Cincinnati Reds for the second time in 2014. On the year Cole has gone 11-5 with a 3.78 ERA covering 21 outings where the Buccos are 15-6.

The Cincinnati Reds don't have any thing to play for but they could end the Pirates National League Central title hopes while getting Johnny Cueto his 20th win. The Reds came up big Saturday with some extra inning heroics that got starter Alfredo Simonn off the hook. Simon was charged with four runs on five hits and a pair of bases on balls with Sam LeCure allowing two. Todd Frazier went deep and drove in two with four runs with Devin Mesoraco before Ramon Santiago connected on his walk off grand slam. Cincinnati sends ace Johnny Cueto to the bump in search of win number 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cueto is 19-9 with a 2.29 as he has put up some Cy Young type numbers.
The Pirates can tie for the Central lead with a win and St Louis loss but I'm looking at Cueto's success in this match up to be the difference...
