The Philadelphia Phillies look to end on a high note with ace Cole Hamels on the mound as they host the Atlanta Braves on the final day of the regular season.

The Atlanta Braves won 4-2 against the Phillies on Saturday night to set up a rubber match on Sunday.  Justin Upton hit a double and a home run, BJ Upton homered and Jason Heyward had two hits in a six hit performance.  The Braves have struggled on offense this season but had some big wins when connecting on the long ball as well.

The Braves have yet to name a starter for this matchup, which likely means that a lot of relievers will see work as the talent evaluation process is always ongoing especially with nothing riding on the outcome of this result.  Regardless of who the Braves counter Hamels with, it’s fair to expect limited offensive production in the early innings from Atlanta.

The Philadelphia Phillies are just 37-42 at home on the season which is a big contributing factor when looking at why the Phillies underperformed in 2013.  The fans were still treated to a Ryan Howard home run in last night’s loss as Chase Utley added two doubles in a nine hit effort.

The Phillies might not need much offense with Cole Hamels making the start and feeding off of the fans who are so firmly committed to him as the centerpiece of the rotation.  Hamels enters this game with a WHIP of 1.17 and ERA of 2.47 while posting a 9-8 record that undersells his level of performance.  The lefty Hamels has dominated Atlanta this year with a single run allowed over 20 innings of work across three starts.

The Phillies can’t be trusted as a huge favorite but you have to like Hamels’ edge on the mound in most situations.  Please check back once the line is released and I will confirm my pick on the Philadelphia Phillies moneyline.
