The Line: San Francisco Giants / Kansas City Royals --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants play game five of the World Series Sunday night at AT&T Park.
The Kansas City Royals got blasted in a game four loss, allowing 11 runs which was by far the most they’ve allowed in the playoffs. Which is concerning about the loss is the fact the Giants finally got to the Royals bullpen, as they allowed eight of the runs. The Royals will certainly have to be sharper if they expect to win game five, especially considering they’ve lost 17 of their last 21 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Alcides Escobar has a nine-game hitting streak, Eric Hosmer has four hits in his last two games and Alex Gordon has scored in back-to-back games. Taking the hill for Kansas City is James Shields, who is 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA and has 180 strikeouts in 227 innings. In this postseason, Shields is 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA and has 16 strikeouts in 19 innings.

The San Francisco Giants are slowly starting to figure things out on the offensive end, as they’ve produced a combined 22 runs in this series. With 11 runs in Saturday’s victory, the Giants have won 17 of their last 18 games when scoring more than three runs. Of course, getting to the Royals unhittable bullpen has to certainly help their confidence to keep up the production moving forward. Hunter Pence has seven hits in this series, Pablo Sandoval has five RBIs in the playoffs and Brandon Belt has hit safely in all four games of this series. The Giants pitching has allowed three or less runs in five of their last 10 games. Taking the mound for San Francisco is Madison Bumgarner, who is 18-10 with a 2.98 ERA and has 219 strikeouts in 217.1 innings. In this postseason, Bumgarner is 3-1 with a 1.90 ERA and has 33 strikeouts in 38.2 innings.
The Royals are 23-4 in Shields' last 27 road starts, 6-1 in Shields' last 7 starts as an underdog and 42-19 in Shields' last 61 starts overall. The Giants are 4-1 in Bumgarners last 5 home starts, 8-1 in Bumgarners last 9 starts as a favorite and 10-2 in Bumgarners last 12 starts overall.
I've been riding the Royals all postseason but it's hard to keep that going with the pitching matchup we have here. I have no faith in Shields at all, while Bumgarner is one of the better postseason pitchers we've seen in a while. Give me San Fran to take another win at home.
