The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres face off on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium for game three of their MLB season opening series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers started the season off with a win on Monday but on Tuesday they let it slip away late losing to the Padres. Adrian Gonzalez had three hits including a home run and Jimmy Rollins and Yasiel Puig each had hits as the Dodgers scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Zack Greinke allowed two hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Yimi Garcia took a blown save and Chris Hatcher was shelled taking the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Dodgers start Brandon McCarthy who spent last season with the Diamondbacks and then the Yankees where he had a 2.89 ERA striking out 82 over 90.1 innings.

The San Diego Padres opened the season with a close loss on Monday in LA but followed that up on Tuesday with a late inning explosion to turn a tie game into a runaway win. Yonder Alonso had three hits and Derek Norris and Clint Barmes each had two hits as the Padres scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Joaquin Benoit got the win. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who was 5-7 with a 2.55 ERA striking out 93 over 123.1 innings.
Los Angeles is 7-2 in their last nine home games, 37-14 against the NL West, and 42-19 as a favorite. San Diego is 4-11 as a road underdog, 8-3 against a right handed starter, and 2-6 in Cashner’s last eight road starts. San Diego is 9-20 in the last 29 meetings of these two.
Last we saw of McCarthy in the NL he was horrific and though he has been much improved, the Padres are the more improved team and Casher should get a better result for it.
