The Washington Nationals look to even their record when they battle the visiting New York Mets Wednesday.
The New York Mets aren’t considered to be a big threat in the National League East but they did show they are capable with a 3-1 victory at Washington on opening day. Veteran Bartolo Colon outdueled Max Scherzer to get the win with a solo homer over six frames being the lone blemish. Colon allowed three hits a walked one while striking out eight to open 2015 at 1-0. The offense produced five hits with Travis d’Arnaud going 2-4 with an RBI while Lucas Duda was also 2-4 with two runs driven in. The Mets turn to second year man Jacob deGrom for Wednesday’s outing at Washington. DeGrom is looking to build on an outstanding rookie campaign where he went 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 22 starts.

The Washington Nationals are the odds on favorite to win the National League East but they will need to hit and field better then they did in Monday’s 3-1 opening day loss to the Mets. Max Scherzer tossed a gem with zero earned runs allowed thanks to a pair of errors by Ian Desmond. Scherzer gave up four hits and a pair of free passes through 7.2 innings pitched while whiffing eight to fall to 0-1. The Nationals offense was silenced on three hits and a walk with ten strikeouts. Bryce Harper went 204 with a solo homer in the 4th. Michael Taylor recorded a single but only two runners were able to advance in to scoring position. Jordan Zimmerman looks to kick off the 2015 with a win against the New York Mets on Wednesday. Zimmerman went 14-5 with a 2.66 ERA over 32 starts in 2014 covering almost 200 innings.
The New York Mets are 9-3 in their last 12 road games while the under is 6-2-1 in Mets last 9 road games and 15-6-3 in the Mets last 24 Wednesday games. For Washington the under is 20-7-1 in the last 28 overall and is 20-7-1 in the last 28 on grass while the Nationals are 55-24 in their last 79 Wednesday games. Head to head the Mets are 16-45 in the last 61 meetings. If the Nats come to play they win and if not deGrom is good enough to win this…
