The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics end their four-game series Thursday afternoon.
The Texas Rangers are coming off a brutal 10-0 loss Wednesday, as this season is slowly starting to look like last year’s disaster. The Rangers pitching staff has allowed 19 runs in their first three games and allowed 14 hits just yesterday. Offensively, Leonys Martin and Prince Fielder have combined for six hits, while Ryan Rua has struck out seven times in 11 at bats. Fielder is the only Texas player with an RBI in the first three games. It’s still early, but the Texas Rangers can’t be feeling too good about themselves right now. Nick Martinez gets the nod, and he was 5-12 with a 4.55 ERA and 77 strikeouts last season. Martinez is 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA and seven strikeouts in his career against the A’s.
USA TODAY Sports
The Oakland Athletics are off to a fast start offensively, as three hitters have four hits and they’re coming off a 10-run performance. Mark Canha leads the A’s with four RBI and Sam Fuld and has four hits in just eight at bats. The A’s pitching staff has also allowed just three runs in this series and struck out 13 batters yesterday. Dating back to last regular season, the Oakland Athletics have won eight of their last 10 games when scoring at least four runs. Kendall Graveman gets the ball, and he was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and four strikeouts last season. This will be Graveman’s first career game against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 4-15 in Martinezs last 19 starts and 3-7 in Martinezs last 10 road starts. The Athletics are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 4 of a series and 8-17 in their last 25 vs. American League West.
I don't like putting my money on young pitchers who haven't done anything yet, but the A's are absolutely beating the hell out of the Rangers in this series. Keep riding the money train here.
