The Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers finish off their season opening series in the Motor City Thursday.

The Minnesota Twins can not be happy with their 0-2 start especially since they have yet to score a run. The Twins had nothing going for them Wednesday afternoon in an 11-0 defeat  to the Tigers. Starter Ricky Nolasco was hit hard with six runs allowed on six hits and four bases on balls in three frames to take the loss. Tim Stauffer followed with three runs given up (two earned) in 1.2 innings on four hits and a pair of walks. The offense posted four hits and walked twice while striking out nine times with Jordan Schafer stroking a double. The Twins turn to Kyle Gibson on the bump in the series finale’ at the Detroit Tigers Thursday. Gibson was 13-12 with a 4.47 ERA in 31 starts a season ago over 179 innings pitched.

Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins - 4/9/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

As unhappy as the Twins are the Detroit Tigers are thrilled with their start with the pitching staff having yet to allow a run. The potent Tigers offense got in to the act Wednesday in their 11-0 rout of Minnesota although starter Anibal Sanchez didn’t need much help. Sanchez was in mid season form with three hits and a pair of free passes allowed through 6.2 scoreless frames to get the win. The offense piled up 15 hits and seven walks with Jose Iglesias going 4-4 with three runs scored with Ian Kinsler going 2-4 with four RBI’s. Anthony Gose had three hits and knocked in three with Miguel Cabrera driving in two more. Shane Greene makes his first start as a member of the Tigers after spending his rookie season with the Yankees. Greene appeared in 15 games with 14 starts where he went 5-4 with a 3.78 ERA.

For Minnesota the over is 19-8-1 in their last 28 overall and  19-8-1 in the Twins last 28 on grass while going  14-6 in last 20 games as an underdog. For Detroit the under is 6-2-1 in the last 9 home games while Detroit are 10-4 in their last 14 Thursday games and 11-5 in their last 16 home games. I would say neither hurler has a proven track record so backing either is iffy in my view so I’ll go with the better team…
