The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves meet Saturday night in game two of their series.
The New York Mets fall to 2-2 after losing Friday’s game, 5-3. The one positive for the Mets to build on moving forward is that they’ve allowed three or less runs in three of their first four games. Even if Friday’s loss, the Mets struck out seven batters and didn’t allow a run during the 4-7 innings. Offensively, David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud have combined for 12 hits and eight RBI, while John Mayberry Jr. has one of the team’s two homers. The New York Mets have been a lot more competitive out of the gate than a lot of people probably expected. Dillon Gee gets the nod, and he was 7-8 with a 4.00 ERA and 94 strikeouts last season. Gee is 6-4 with a 2.79 ERA and 56 strikeouts in his career against the Braves.

The Atlanta Braves find themselves in first place in the NL East with a perfect 4-0 record. The Braves are getting it done with their pitching that’s allowed a combined six runs and struck out 11 Mets players in Friday’s win. Offensively, Freddie Freeman leads the Braves with six hits, and Nick Markakis and Cameron Maybin have combined for six RBI. The Atlanta Braves were expected to be a bottom feeder in the league this season, but they’re certainly not playing that way early on. It’ll be interesting to see if the Braves can keep it up. Julio Teheran takes the hill, and he’s 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and four strikeouts this season. Teheran is 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA and 33 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.
The Mets are 6-1 in their last 7 during game 2 of a series and 4-1 in Gees last 5 starts as an underdog. The Braves are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a right-handed starter and 4-1 in Teherans last 5 starts with 4 days of rest. The Mets are 5-1 in Gees last 6 road starts vs. Braves.
The Braves have to lose eventually, right? Sure, Teheran is a solid pitcher, but despite the hot start, Atlanta isn't a good ballclub. I like the value of the plus money here.
