The Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants will face off this Monday afternoon at AT&T Park to kick off their three game series.

The Colorado Rockies (4-2) gave up three runs in the top of the 9th inning and dropped their second straight game after losing to the Chicago Cubs 6-5 this past Sunday afternoon. LaTroy Hawkins gave up the lead for the Rockies in the 9th as he gave up a 2 run home-run to former Colorado Rockies, Dexter Fowler, with two outs in the 9th. Leading the way for Colorado was Charles Blackmon (3-4, 1R, 1 RBI, 1 SB) and DJ LeMahieu who had a bases clearing triple in the bottom of the 2nd.  Colorado was able to compile 11 hits in the contest and went 3-11 with RISP. Jordan Lyles pitched well in his second start of the season giving up just 1 earned run on 5 hits and three walks. Adam Otttavino and Boone Logan pitched 2.1 innings of hitless relief while striking out three.

Giants vs. Rockies - 4/13/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The San Francisco Giants (3-4) dropped their third straight game after a 6-4 defeat to the San Diego Padres this past Sunday afternoon. Jake Peavy was able to cruise through his first three innings, however, ran in trouble in the 4th and gave up a grand slam to Wil Nieves that gave the Padres a lead they won’t relinquish. Peavy ended his day going just 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Yusmeiro Petit gave up 2 runs on 4 hits over 2.2 innings of relief. Offensively, the Giants were led by Buster Posey (1-3, 1 BB, 1 HR) and Nori Aoki (2-5, 1 R). The Giants left 6 runners on base while going just 2-11 with RISP.

The Rockies are 4-1 in their last 5 games on grass and 20-51 in their last 71 games as an underdog. The Giants are 7-0 in their ast 7 during game 1 of a series and 9-2 in their last 11 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150.

The Colorado Rockies will start Eddie Butler (0-0, 3.18 ERA) who was solid in this first start of the season giving just 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks in a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers. Butler is one of the better pitching prospects that the Rockies have and will display a mid-90’s fast ball and solid change-up. On the mound for the San Francisco Giants will sent Chris Heston (1-0, 0.00 ERA) who held the Arizona Diamondbacks to no runs on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 in a 5-2 victory. Heston won’t overpower hitter, but has great movement on his pitches and commands the strike zone well.

Both teams will be looking to get back on track in this one and although playing at AT&T Park is going to be tough for Colorado, I think that they will be able to have some success with the bats against Chris Heston and that Eddie Butler does enough to help the Rockies take the first game of this series. Take Colorado.
