The Los Angeles Angels look to get back in the win column in the series opener at the Texas Rangers.
Even though it’s too early in the season to make conclusions the Los Angeles Angels are not getting enough scoring and pitching. That trend continued in Sunday’s 9-2 loss to visiting Kansas City as they were swept at home. Veteran CJ Wilson tossed a shutout the first time out but was hammered for seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and a walk over 5.2 innings to fall to 1-1. The offense mustered five hits and three bases on balls with Albert Pujols leading the attack with a 2-3 afternoon with his second homer of 2015. The Angels turn to Matt Shoemaker to open the series on the mound against the Rangers. Shoemaker defeated Seattle in his first outing by a 5-3 count with all three runs given up on six hits in six innings pitched.

The Texas Rangers have been a bit all over the map so far and are a squad that needs to maximize both their hitting and pitching to be successful as neither seems strong enough to carry this team long term. The Rangers came back from a 4-0 deficit to visiting Houston with a pair of runs in the 7th and 8th only to fall 6-4 in 14 innings. Colby Lewis gave up a pair of homers and four runs in the second before settling down to throw 7.1 innings. Logan Verrett served up a two run homer in the 14th to absorb the loss to squander a spirited late rally. The Rangers had some baserunners with their nine hit, seven walk attack that saw Leonys Martin knock in two runs with Rougned Odor and Carlos Coporan driving in a run each. Left hander Ross Detwiler toes the rubber versus the Angels on Monday looking to rebound from a poor outing the first time out. Detwiler was hit hard in a 10-0 loss at Oakland where he was charged eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in 4.1 innings.
The Angels are 2-9 in their last 11 and 2-9 in their last 11 games on grass while the under is 10-3 in their last 13 Monday games. The under is 7-1 in the Rangers last 8 Monday games and 19-7-4 in their last 30 home games while the Texas are 9-3 in their last 12 home games. Head to head the Angels are 9-1 in their last 10 meetings in Texas and 13-3 in the last 16 meetings overall. We are not looking at two teams that have hit their stride so exercise caution…
