The surging Tampa Bay Rays shoot for another win at the Rogers Centre against the Toronto Blue Jays.
After a slow start to the season the Tampa bay Rays have suddenly begun to click with four consecutive victories capped off by a 3-2 win on Tuesday night at the Rogers Centre. Even though starter Matt Andriese gave up two runs in 3.2 innings the pitching carried the day with four relievers tossing scoreless baseball. The offense did just enough damage on seven hits and five walks with Steven Souza leading the way on a 3-5 night with a solo jack and a pair of runs with Desmond Jennings driving in a run and scoring. Tampa Bay turns to Erasmo Ramirez who makes his first start for the Rays Wednesday. Ramirez appeared in relief of a 10-9 loss to Miami where he was charged with seven runs on six hits including three homers in two innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays can be a streaky team and although it’s too early to develop a streak one way or the other the bottom line is the team has dropped three of four following Tuesday’s defeat. Starter Daniel Norris received a no decision with a pair of runs plated on two hits and three base on balls through five frames with Miguel Castro allowing an unearned run in the 8th to be saddled with a tough loss. The offense didn’t help with just eight hits and a walk to work with that saw Jose Reyes and Kevin Pillar drive in Josh Donaldson and Dioner Navarro respectively.
Veteran lefty Mark Buehrle takes the bump against Tampa Bay on Wednesday in game three of their series. Buehrle picked up a 12-5 win at Baltimore in his last outing with a pair of runs given up on eight hits over six innings.
Toronto are 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games and 14-7 in their last 21 games on astroturf while the over is 7-1 in Buehrle’s last 8 home starts. I’m always cautious when it comes to Toronto because they can look really bad or really good and I’m not sure if they are even worth a look here after throwing away Tuesday’s contest…
