The San Diego Padres make the long trip to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs in Friday afternoon action.
The new look San Diego Padres have rebounded from a slow start as winners in five of six with bots the arms and bats contributing to the success. The Padres are coming off of a 3-2 victory against visiting Arizona with starter Brandon Morrow surrendering a first two run jack from Paul Goldschmidt before settling down to toss seven innings with seven hits given up to get the win with Craig Kimbrel striking out two in a scoreless 9th to get save number three. The offense posted nine hits and walked twice with Justin Upton going deep for the third time while scoring twice.San Diego turns to James Shields on the hill to open the series at Wrigley Field Friday. Shields is coming off of a 10-1 rout of San Francisco where he gave up a run on three hits and a walk and whiffed seven over seven frames.

The Chicago Cubs also have a few new faces and have quietly been winning some games which in previous seasons didn’t happen consistently. The Cubs have won four of five after a complete effort in a 5-0 victory over Cincinnati at Wrigley Field on Wednesday. Starter Travis Wood was staked to an early 4-0 lead and took full advantage as he struck out seven and allowed three hits and a issued a pair of free passes through seven innings. The Cubbies pounded out eleven hits and walked four times with Anthony Rizzo clubbing a two run homer. Dexter Fowler went 2-3 with a pair of runs with Starlin Castro recording a double and single and scoring.Jason Hammel shoots for another solid outing when the Padres pay a visit on Friday. Hammel was at the top of his game in a 9-5 win at Colorado with three runs given up on eight hits and zero walks over six innings pitched.
