The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies face off on Friday at Nationals Park for game two of their MLB series of NL East teams.
The Washington Nationals got the jump in this series winning game one on Thursday. Yunel Escobar and Michael Taylor each hit home runs and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and two RBI’s as the Nationals scored five runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out four over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 1-0 for the season and Drew Storen earned his third save. For Friday’s game the Nationals start Max Scgerzer who is still looking for his first win of the year. For the season Scherzer has allowed 10 hits and four runs, just one earned, while striking out 16 over 13.2 innings for a 0-1 record and 0.66 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies got to the lead on Thursday against the Nats but couldn’t close the deal as they lost game one of the series. Freddy Galvis, Jeff Francoeur, and Ryan Howard all had hits as the Phillies scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels allowed five hits and five runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Friday’s game the Phillies start Sean O’Sullivan who allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to get a no decision in his first start of the year facing the Nationals.
Washington is 16-7 against the NL East, 36-17 as a favorite, and 1-5 in game two of a series. Philadelphia is 10-3 in game two of a series, 0-5 in their last five road games, and 4-1 in their last five Friday games. Philadelphia is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings of these two.
Scherzer is way too big of a favorite to play here but the Nats are the choice in a pick I might throw into some parlays.
