The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A’s face off on Tuesday in Anaheim for game two of their MLB series of AL West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels were playing catch up all night on Monday and in the end they came up short losing to the Athletics. Albert Pujols had two hits and Mike Trout and David Freese each had hits as the Angels scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker didn’t have his usual stuff as he allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out two over 3.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Angels look to bounce back as they start Hector Santiago who has allowed 10 hits and four runs while striking out nine over 12.1 innings for a 1-1 record and 2.92 ERA.

The A’s appeared to be in control all night on Monday and it resulted in what looked like a fairly easy win. Stephen Vogt and Marcus Semien each hit home runs and Billy Butler added two hits as the A’s scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Kendall Graveman allowed four hits and three runs, two earned while striking out two but lasting just 3.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Dan Otero got the win and Tyler Clippard earned the save. For Tuesday’s game the A’s start Drew Pomeranz who has allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out 11 over 12 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.00 ERA.
Los Angeles is 5-14 in their last 19 games, 42-15 in their last 57 games against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 in Santiago’s last five home starts. Oakland is 8-21 as a road underdog, 1-4 in Tuesday games, and 2-5 in Pomeranz’s last seven starts. Oakland is 1-4 in their last five games in Los Angeles.
This game is close to a pick but I like the way the A’s looked on Monday and I expect a similar performance out of them here.
