The Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks begin a two-game series Tuesday night.
The Texas Rangers could use a win after losing five of their last seven games. The Rangers pitching staff is back to stinking up the joint, allowing 14 runs in their last two games and allowing five or more runs in five of their last nine games. The Rangers have lost eight straight when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Prince Fielder leads Texas with 20 hits and six RBI while Elvis Andrus and Rougned Odor have combined for 11 RBI. The Texas Rangers have shown they can be a decent team, but their inconsistent pitching staff doesn’t allow it. Nick Martinez takes the hill, and he’s 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts this season. This will be Martinez’s first career game against the Diamondbacks.
USA TODAY Sports
The Arizona Diamondbacks look for a win after splitting their last eight games. The Diamondbacks offense has found its groove by producing four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Diamondbacks are 7-2 this season when scoring more than three runs. Ender Inciarte leads Arizona with 17 hits and six RBI while Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb have combined for 24 RBI. The Arizona Diamondbacks look to pick up the slack on their home field where they’re just 3-3 this season. Chase Anderson gets the ball, and he’s 0-0 with a 4.09 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Anderson’s first career game against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 interleague road games and 4-1 in Martinezs last 5 starts. The Diamondbacks are 16-36 in their last 52 games following a win and 4-1 in Andersons last 5 home starts. The Rangers are 13-5 in the last 18 meetings.
Martinez is probably the most talented pitcher on the Rangers staff, and he's the only guy who hasn't been giving up runs left and right. For the plus money, I'm siding with the road team in this one.
