The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Wednesday at AT&T Park in a NL West MLB rivalry game.
The San Francisco Giants haven’t had a good start to the season but they rose to the occasion on Tuesday beating the Dodgers. Justin Maxwell had two hits including a home run and Buster Posey and Angel Pagan were among those with two hits as the Giants scored six runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 1-1 and Santiago Casilla eared his fifth save. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Madison Bumgarner who has allowed 22 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 11 over 17 innings for a 1-1 record and 5.29 ERA.

The Dodgers entered Tuesday’s game in first place in the NL West but their loss combined with a Padres win leaves them now tied. Yasiel Puig had two hits and Howie Kendrick and Carl Crawford each had hits as the Dodgers scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Brett Anderson allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out one over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Dodgers start Clayton Kershaw who has allowed 22 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 26 over 18.1 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.42 ERA.
San Francisco is 4-1 against a left-handed starter, 2-9 against the NL West, and 12-4 in Bumgarner’s last 16 starts. Los Angeles is 7-1 in their last eight games, 6-2 in game two of a series, and 39-18 in Kershaw’s last 57 road starts. Los Angeles is 6-2 in the last eight games in San Francisco.
Neither Bumgarner nor Kershaw has looked like themself this season but the Giants have been the worse team so the Dodgers are my play in a pick that is a lean at best.
