Round two of the Subway Series is set for Saturday afternoon when the New York Mets visit the New York Yankees.
The New York Mets were the hottest team in baseball as they hadn’t lost in weeks. The inevitable happened with the Yankees putting an end to the good times with a 6-1 victory to kick off the Subway Series. The normally dependable Jacob deGrom struggled with all six runs plated on six hits including three homers. The offense did not provide any support with five hits and zero walks with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lucas Duda plating Curtis Granderson with the only run. Ace Matt Harvey looks to go 4-0 when he gets the game two start versus the Yankees. Harvey is coming off his poorest outing of the year when he allowed four runs on eight hits while whiffing seven in six frames of a 7-6 win against Miami.

The New York Yankees have played their best baseball over the last week and added another to their win total in the first game of the series Friday night with the rival Mets. Michael Pineda upped his record to 3-0 with the lone run scored on five hits while striking out seven through 7.2 innings. The Bronx Bombers pounded out eleven hits with a pair of free passes. Mark Texeira swinging the big bat with a homer and four RBI’s with two runs scored while Jacoby Ellsbury going 2-5 with a solo homer. Veteran left hander CC Sabathia gets the starting assignment against the Mets looking for win number one. Sabathia threw the ball in a 2-1 loss at Detroit where he allowed both runs on seven hits and three walks in eight innings.
The Mets are 20-7 in their last 27 overall and 20-1 in their last 27 on grass while the over is 7-3 in the Mets last 10 interleague games. The over is 11-4 in the Yankees last 15 overall and 13-6 in the last 19 on grass while the under is 43-20 in the Yankees last 63 interleague games. The Mets are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Mets are going to lose a few but I’m still backing Harvey…
