The Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros conclude their weekend set at O.co Coliseum on Sunday.

I don’t think I’m making an earth shattering statement when I say the Houston Astros are not going to be a factor in the American League West but they are more then capable of coming up with the occasional rout. Oakland found that out in Saturday’s 9-3 decision where everything clicked for the Astros. Starter Scott Feldman evened his record at 2-2 with all three runs given up on five hits and a trio of BB with six K’s over 6.2 frames. The Stros came to life with a 12 hit, four walk attack that saw  George Springer go solo with Jose Altuve going deep and driving in three while Jed Lowrie knocked in two more. Rookie Asher Wojciechowski makes his third career start when he takes the hill against Oakland. Wojciechowski did not get a decision in a 7-4 win at Seattle with four runs scored on eight hits over four innings.

USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Athletics aren’t as fearsome as they have been over the last few years with a slew of productive faces no longer with the team. The  Athletics will need both their arms and bats on the same page more often then not to be successful  and neither came through in Saturday’s rout at the hands of visiting Houston. Starter Kendall Graveman fell to 1-2 with six runs plated on nine hits through 4.2 innings with Chris Bassitt allowing three more runs (one earned) in 4.1 frames. The Athletics simply couldn’t stay competitive on six hits and four walks that saw Eric Sogard rap a two run double. Left hander Drew Pomeranz looks to bounce back from a pair of tough outings when he faces Houston on Sunday. Pomeranz has allowed four runs in consecutive five inning stints where the A’s have been outscored 20-2.

The under is 20-6-1 in Houston’s last 27 road games and  is 36-14-2 in their last 52 overall while going 36-14-2 in the Astros last 52 on grass. The over  is 7-1 in Oakland’s last 8 games as a favorite and the A’s are 35-16 in their last 51 Sunday games while Oakland  are 2-6 in Pomeranz’s last 8 starts. Houston are 7-16 in their last 23 meetings in Oakland and are 15-33 in the last 48 meetings. I’m not sure I’d be in a hurry to bet this because of the price because Oakland isn’t the big powerhouse this year…
