Turner Field and the Atlanta Braves shoot for another win versus the Atlanta Braves in Tuesday action.
The Washington Nationals have been a huge disappointment thus far and I say thus far because the season is too young to push the panic button. The Nationals had absolutely nothing going for them in a series opening 8-4 defeat at Atlanta on Monday. Starter Doug Fister was hit hard with five runs scored (four earned) on ten hits and a pair of BB over 5.2 innings pitched. The Nats totaled five hits and walked five times with Danny Espinosa going 2-3 with a walk and a run. Max Scherzer will get the call to the mound if his ailing right thumb heals. Scherzer is coming off of a 4-1 defeat to visiting St Louis with a pair of runs allowed on six hits covering seven frames.

The Atlanta Braves have been given zero chance of challenging or winning the National League East. The Braves haven’t been tearing it up but they are playing winning baseball and only time will tell if that continues over the long term. Eric Stults gave up a pair of runs on four hits and a trio of free passes through 6.1 innings with Cody Martin allowing two more runs. The Bravos pounded Nationals pitching for 13 hits and three bases on balls. Kelly Johnson was a monster at the plate with a 3-4 night with a homer and three RBI’s while AJ Pierzynski knocked in two more. The Braves turn to ace Julio Teheran on the mound to control the Nationals offense Tuesday. Teheran absorbed a 6-3 loss at the Mets with four runs scored on three hits and five walks in 4.1 innings.
The over is 9-4-1 in Washington’s last 14 overall and is 9-4-1 in their last 14 on grass while the Nationals are 13-6 in their last 19 Tuesday games. The over is 7-1 in Atlanta’s last 8 home games while the Braves are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass and are 2-12 in their last 14 Tuesday’s games. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings and Washington are 4-10 in their last 14 meetings in Atlanta. Sooner or later the Nationals will turn things around and maybe it starts with Scherzer on the mound…
