The New York Yankees look to give the home crowd home happy with a series ending win versus the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Tampa Bay Rays have enjoyed a great deal of success at Yankee Stadium but Tuesday wasn’t a good one. The Rays offense stalled and the starting pitching struggled in a 4-2 defeat with starter Jake Odorizzi allowing all four runs on nine hits over 6.1 frames to drop to 2-2.The offense had baserunners on nine hits and a trio of base on balls but couldn’t get the big hit. Asdrubal Cabrera and Logan Forsythe drove in runs with four players recording two hits apiece. Tampa Bay leans on Drew Smyly to control the Yankees offense in Wednesday’s series finale’. Smyly opened his season with a 12-3 win against Toronto with two runs allowed on four hits in 4.2 frames.

The New York Yankees are looking like a contender in the American League East thus far but the question is whether the winning can continue. The Bronx Bombers did just enough with the bats but the star of the game was starter Chase Whitley with a single run plated on six hits through five frames to win his first. The bats totaled nine hits and walked once with Brian McCann swinging the big bat with a pair of doubles and three runs driven in while Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-4 with two runs scored. The Yankees are hoping Masahiro Tanaka has found his game when he face Tampa Bay in the final game of series. Tanaka has given up a single run on five hits and two BB over 13.1 innings.
The over is 9-4-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 14 on grass and the under is 7-1 in Smyly’s last 8 starts overall. The over is 7-1-1 in the Yankees last 9 home games and New York are 7-1 in their last 8 games as a favorite while the over is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games as a favorite. Tampa Bay are 12-5 in the last 17 meetings in New York. The question for me is whether Tanaka is 100% back in form and if he is then I favor the Yankees…
