The Philadelphia Phillies make the long trip to Marlins Park to open a weekend series with the Miami Marlins.
The Philadelphia Phillies are already in desperation mode as they are on the brink of becoming a non factor in the National League East already. The Phillies fell back another game in a 9-3 defeat where nothing went well. Starter David Buchanan fell to 0-5 on the year with seven runs plated on eight hits and a trio of free passes over 4.1 innings with Justin De Fratus allowing a pair of 8th inning runs. The bats produced eight hits and two walks with Darin Ruf cracking his second long ball. Only one starter failed to reach base so there were opportunities to score. Jerome Williams opens the series on the mound versus the Miami Marlins on Friday. Williams survived some early trouble in a 5-4 decision against Atlanta where he gave up three runs on eight hits in 6.2 frames.

After a slow start the Miami Marlins have been streaking with wins in seven of eight after taking two of three from National League West leader the New York Mets. The Bats and arms are coming off of a solid 7-3 victory against the Mets on Wednesday where starter Mat Latos gave up three runs on five hits and a pair of bases on balls through five frames despite a strained hamstring. Three relievers tossed four scoreless innings and the offense took advantage with 12 hits and a walk doing plenty of damage. Ichiro Suzuki clubbed a three run homer with Giancarlo Stanton going 2-4 with a homer and three more RBI’s while seven different players scored.Tom Koehler draws the starting assignment against visiting Philadelphia on Friday. Koehler is coming off of his best start of the season with 7.1 scoreless innings of six hit baseball in an 8-0 victory versus Washington.
Philadelphia are 5-16 in their last 21 road games and the over is 5-2-2 in PHI last 9 road games while the Phillies are 5-12 in their last 17 overall. Miami are 7-1 in their last 8 overall and are 7-1 in their last 8 games on grass while the over is 10-4-1 in MIA last 15 overall. Philadelphia are 2-6 in their last 8 meetings in Miami with the under going 17-8-1 in the last 26 meetings in Miami. Koehler isn’t an ace but with the Miami bats behind him I think he has enough to get the win…
