The Texas Rangers visit Minute Maid Park looking to slow the red hot Houston Astros.
The Texas Rangers are in an early season funk and need to turn things around soon to avoid being an afterthought in the American League West. Texas remained in their funk following a 7-1 defeat to visiting Oakland for their 8th defeat in eleven contests. Yovani Gallardo threw well enough to win with four runs allowed (three earned) on seven hits over 6.2 frames with the pen giving up three more. Texas had chances to score on four hits and nine walks but received an RBI double from Shin-Soo Choo that scored Leonys Martin with nothing more coming. Ross Detwiler gets the call to the mound in the series opener at Houston on Monday. Detwiler is looking to duplicate his last effort in a 2-1 loss to Seattle where he gave up both runs on five hits in 5.1 frames.

All I can say about the Houston Astros is wow and I can’t believe how well they are playing. The Astros defeated visiting Seattle 7-6 on Sunday for win number ten in a row with some early scoring overcoming an uneven performance on the mound from Roberto Hernandez. Hernandez was charged with five runs (four earned) on eight hits through six innings of work. Houston did their damage on eight hits and four bases on balls with Evan Gattis slamming a pair of bombs and driving in four with three runs while Chris Carter went deep and knocked in two. Dallas Keuchel toes the rubber in game one of the series against the Rangers. Keuchel is shooting for his 4th win after a 7-2 win at San Diego with a lone run scored on three hits over eight innings.
The under is 8-1-1 in the Rangers last 10 Monday games. Houston are 8-1 in their last 9 games as a favorite and the under is 6-1-1 in their last 8 home games while the over is 7-2 in the Astros last 9 overall. This is big chalk for a Houston squad that never sees this type of juice but the way this team is playing I don’t think I will go against them…
