The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres face off on Tuesday at AT&T Park for game two of their MLB series of NL West teams.
The San Francisco Giants are playing heir way back into contention in the NL West and they got a step closer on Monday beating the Padres. Angel Pagan and Brandon Belt each had two hits and Joe Panik had a hit as the Giants scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed two hits and struck out six over 7.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 3-1 and Santiago Casilla earned his eighth save. For Tuesday’s game the Giants start Ryan Vogelsong who has allowed 28 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 17 over 19.1 innings for a 0-2 record and a 9.31 ERA.

The San Diego Padres just couldn’t get any offense going as they fell to the Giants on Monday. Justin Upton and Yangervis Solarte each had hits and Wil Myers reached via walk as the Padres failed to score on two hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-3 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 32 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 36 over 31 innings for a 1-4 record and a 2.61 ERA.
San Francisco is 5-0 in their last five games, 5-10 against a right-handed starter, and 4-0 in Vogelsong’s last four starts. San Diego is 7-2 in Tuesday games, 9-20 in their last 29 road games, and 3-7 in Cashner’s last 10 road starts. San Diego is 9-25 in their last 34 games in San Francisco.
The Giants are red hot right now and though Cashner has the better numbers, he hasn’t found a way to win so will look for the value on the other side of this.
