The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series with the New York Yankees at the Rogers Centre on Tuesday.
The New York Yankees are the hottest team in the American League East but cooled off for at least a day in Monday’s 3-1 defeat at the Rogers Centre. The normally reliable bullpen blew this one with Chase Whitley tossing seven shutout frames with Chris Martin allowing two runs with Dellin Betances allowing an un earned run to blow a 1-0 lead in the 8th. The offense gets some of the blame as well with only three hits a trio of bases on balls to their credit with Garrett Jones driving in Carlos Beltran with the lone run. The Yankees will be looking for a strong effort on the hill from Michael Pineda who faces Toronto for the second time in 2015. Pineda beat the Blue Jays to open the season 4-2 with both runs scored on six hits over six innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays are still in the middle of the pack in the American League East although they haven’t been setting the world on fire as of late. A late rally got the Blue Jays a 3-1 win versus first place New York so picking up a game in the standings against the Yankees is always a good thing. RA Dickey turned back the clock with an outstanding effort Monday. Dickey allowed the only run on three hits and three BB through eight innings to get the win. The Blue Jays totaled ten hits with Edwin Encarnacion and Russell Martin knocking in runs. The Blue Jays give Tuesday’s start to Marco Estrada who will be making his first start of 2015. Estrada has made six relief appearances and has gone 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA in four innings of work.
The Yankees are 13-3 in their last 16 overall and are 8-2 in their last 10 games as a favorite while going 8-20 in their last 28 Tuesday games. The over is 7-1 in Toronto’s last 8 Tuesday games while the Blue Jays are 2-6 in their last 8 games as an underdog and 3-7 in their last 10 overall. The Yankees can’t afford a losing streak of any length and I think Pineda might be their best so the Yanks as small faves is the way I’m looking…
