The Baltimore Orioles battle American League East rival the New York Yankees to begin a weekend series.
The Baltimore Orioles are in the middle of the pack of the bunched up American League East and right now are chasing .500. The Orioles took a step back from their goal in a 5-1 defeat at Citi Field on Wednesday night. Ubaldo Jimenez didn’t have his best stuff with three runs plated on six hits and two free passes over four frames with Brad Brach allowing a two run homer to put this one out of reach. The Birds totaled nine hits and walked once with Jimmy Paredes singling in Travis Snider with the only run. A struggling Chris Tillman looks for back to back quality starts against the Yankees. Tillman was a tough luck loser in a 2-0 defeat to Tampa Bay where he allowed both runs on three hits and a pair of BB in seven frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Yankees lead the American League East by a couple of games and missed a chance to maintain their lead in a 5-1 defeat the Rogers Centre in the rubber match of their series with the rival Blue Jays. The offense stalled and that spelled doom with starter CC Sabathia giving up some early runs. Sabathia was charged with four runs on nine hits and two BB through 6.1 innings to fall to 0-5 on the season. The Bronx Bombers had a few opportunities at the plate with seven hits and four walks but Mark Texiera’s RBI single that scored Chris Young was the only big hit. Hard throwing Nathan Eovaldi comes in off of a 4-2 victory at Fenway Park. Eovaldi gave up both Red Sox runs on seven hits and a free pass covering 6.2 innings pitched that upped his record to 2-0.
The under is 12-5 in Baltimore’s last 17 road games and is 32-14 in their last 46 games as an underdog while the Orioles are 40-19 in their last 59 Thursday games. The Yankees are 9-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite and are 17-5 in their last 22 Thursday games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 overall. The Orioles are 13-5 in the last 18 meetings. I’m really not a big fan of either hurler with Tillman looking lost while Eovaldi is a contact pitcher. I’m just hoping the Orioles do some damage at the plate as an O’s fan…
