The Los Angeles and the Houston Astros face off on Friday at the Big A in game two of their MLB series of AL West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels looked to be ready to grab a win on Thursday but they let it get away late fsalling to the Astros. Ike Trout hit a home run, Albert Pujols added two hits, and Kole Calhoun had a hit as the Angels scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Hector Santiago allowed one hit and struck out five over 6.1 scoreless innings to not factor in the decision as Huston street blew the save and took the loss. For Friday’s game the Angels start Jared Weaver who has allowed 45 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 15 over 34.1 innings for a 0-4 record and a 6.29 ERA.

The Houston Astros never gave up on Friday as they rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to get the win. Jose Altuve, Chris Carter, and Colby Rasmus each had hits as the Astros scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed five hits and two runs while striking out seven over 7.1 innings to not get a decision as Pat Neshek got the win to go to 3-0 and Luke Gregerson earned his seventh save. For Friday’s game the Astros start Roberto Hernandez who has allowed 28 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 17 over 29.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.25 ERA.
Los Angeles is 2-6 in their last eight games, 5-2 as a favorite, and 39-17 in Weaver’s last 56 starts against a team with a winning record. Houston is 7-0 as a road underdog, 17-5 in their last 22 games, and 4-11 after allowing two or less runs in their previous game. Houston is 5-1 in in the last six meetings of these two.
The Angels bullpen is depleted and I look for Houston to ride the momentum of Thursday’s win and get the win again here.
