The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland A’s face off on Saturday at Safeco Field as they continue the MLB series of AL West teams.
The Seattle Mariners rallied late on Friday and then got the win in extra innings. Logan Morrison hit a walk off home run, Nelson Cruz had two hits, and Robinson Cano had a hit as the Mariners scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Carson Smith got the win. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start J.A. Happ who has allowed 33 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 24 over 33.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.51 ERA.

The Oakland A’s were unable to close the deal on Friday as they fell to the Mariners. Josh Reddick hit a home run, Billy Butler had a hit, and Ike Davis had a hit as the A’s scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed six hits and a run while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Dan Otero took the loss to fall to 2-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Jesse Hahn who has allowed 27 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 16 over 27 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.33 ERA.
Seattle is 1-4 in game two of a series, 2-6 against the AL West, and 2-6 in their last eight games. Oakland is 4-11 in their last 15 games, 6-22 as a road underdog, and 1-4 in Hahn’s last five starts.
I give the Mariners the edge in this one on the mound and with the way hey gutted out Friday’s win it could have been a turning point.
