The Washington Nationals shoot for the sweep of the visiting Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
The Atlanta Braves are in danger of getting swept out of DC which means their second place standing in the National League East is in jeopardy. The Braves late rally went for naught in an 8-6 loss to the Nationals. Starter Julio Teheran was charged with six runs on ten hits and a trio of BB before Cody Martin served up a two run homer in the 9th to break a 6-6 tie and absorb the loss. The Bravos did their damage on nine hits and a walk with Christian Bethancourt going 2-4 with two RBI’s and a run with pinch hitter Pedro Ciriaco rapping two run double. Alex Wood opposes Washington for the second time in the series finale’ Sunday. Wood has struggled the last two times out with a combined eight runs allowed on 15 hits over 9.1 innings.

The Washington Nationals are trying to shake off a slow start and make a run at the Mets for supremacy in the NL East. The Nationals offense overcame poor relief pitching in Saturday’s victory but couldn’t get the win for starter Doug Fister who was outstanding. Fister allowed three runs on six hits through 6.2 frames before Aaron Barrett gave up three runs to give Fister a no decision. The Nationals pounded out 14 hits and walked four times with Jose Lobaton going deep and driving in two while Ryan Zimmerman left the yard and knocked in three. Bryce Harper ended up the hero with his two run walk off bomb. The Nationals are hoping for another solid outing from Jordan Zimmermann when he takes the mound Sunday. Zimmermann defeated Miami 6-4 last time out with two runs allowed on six hits in seven frames.
Atlanta are 6-13 in their last 19 games on grass and are 2-8 in Wood’s last 10 road starts while the under is 6-2-1 in Wood’s last 9 Sunday starts. The under is 6-1-1 in Washington’s last 8 Sunday games and are 18-5 in their last 23 Sunday games while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 overall. The over is 7-3 in Zimmermann’s last 10 starts against Atlanta. Something is telling me to not trust Washington and even though I’ll back them I won’t lay the juice so I’m on the sideline…
