The Oakland A’s and the Boston Red Sox face off on Tuesday in Oakland for game two of their series.
The Oakland A’s battled into extra innings on Monday but they couldn’t get it done as they lost for the sixth game in a row. Billy Butler had three hits and Josh Reddick and Billy Burns had two hits each as the A’s scored four runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed four runs and two hits while striking out three over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Evan Scribner blew the save and Angel Castro took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Athletics try to end the losing as they start Drew Pomeranz who has allowed 33 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 27 over 31.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 5.12 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox haven’t been playing the best baseball this season but they got it done on Monday beating the A’s. Pablo Sandoval hit the game winning home run and David Ortiz and Mookie Betts each had two hits as the Red Sox scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Matt Barnes got the win. For Tuesday’s game the Red Sox start Justin Masterson who has allowed 34 hits and 19 runs while striking out 23 over 33 innings for a 2-1 record and a 5.18 ERA.
Oakland is 8-21 in their last 29 home games, 1-5 in game two of a series, and 0-5 in Pomeranz’s last five starts. Boston is 6-14 against a left-handed starter, 2-5 following a win, and 2-5 in Masterson’s last seven road starts. Boston is 8-15 in their last 23 games against Oakland.
I look for the A’s losing to stop here as Boston has struggled against lefties and I look for Oakland’s bullpen to respond to their disappointing performance on Monday.
