The Houston Astros open a series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park Thursday.

The Toronto Blue Jays have had some issues away from the Rogers Centre which has but a crimp in their attempts to string wins together. That trend continued in a 6-1 loss at Camden Yards in the series finale’ on Wednesday night. Starter Aaron Sanchez fell to 3-3 with five runs plated on seven hits and sour bases on balls over 5.2 innings. That was too much for the offense to overcome on their four hit, three walk attack Kevin Pillar scoring the only run on an error. Josh Donaldson walked twice with Pillar reaching base on a BB. Drew Hutchison toes the rubber against the for the second time in his career. Hutchison is looking to duplicate his last outing where he defeated Boston 7-1 with the lone run scored on seven hits in five frames.

Houston Astros vs. Toronto Blue Jays - 5/14/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros cooled down from their recent hot streak and if they intend to hold on to the American League West lead they need to string a few wins together to stay ahead of the Angels who will eventually get their act together. The Astros squeezed out a 4-3 victory versus San Francisco in a pitching by committee type contest as starter Brett Oberholtzer lasted three frames with five relievers needed to finish the job. The Stros mustered eight hits and walked three times with Luis Valbuena, Jason Castro and George Springer slamming solo homers. Roberto Hernandez looks to continue his hot start when he  opposes the dangerous offense of the Blue Jays. Hernandez was a tough luck loser in a 2-0 loss to the Angels with both runs scored on seven hits over 7.2 frames.

The over is 10-2 in Hutchison’s last 12 road starts and  is 9-2 in Hutchison’s last 11 starts on grass while Toronto are 6-2 in his last 8 starts. Houston are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and  are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass while going  3-8 in their last 11 Thursday games. The Blue Jays are 2-8 in their last 10 meetings in Houston. The danger here is Houston is in trouble if the bullpen is called on so caution is the word here…
