The Oakland A’s and the Chicago White Sox face off on Saturday in Oakland for game two of their series.
The Oakland Athletics appeared to be in control on Friday but they let it get away from them and took the loss. Josh Phegley hit a home run, Eric Sogard had three hits, and Josh Reddick and Billy Butler had two hits each as the A’s scored six runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Hahn allowed five hits and four runs, two earned, while striking out five over 6.1 innings to not get a decision as Fernando Abad took the loss. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Jesse Chavez who has allowed 22 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 32 over 31.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 2.56 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox never stopped playing on Friday as they got the win in Oakland. Adam Eaton had two hits and Melky Cabrera and Jose Abreu each had hits as the White Sox scored seven runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Carlos Rondon allowed five hits and five runs while striking out five over 4.0 innings to not get a decision as Scott Carroll got the win and Zack Duke earned the save. For Saturday’s game the White Sox start John Danks who has allowed 38 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 23 over 31.2 innings for a 1-3 record and a 5.12 ERA.
Oakland is 8-21 in their last 29 games, 7-24 against a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in Chavez’s last five starts as a home favorite. Chicago is 11-25 in their last 36 road games, 6-1 in their last seven games, and 1-7 in Danks’ last eight road starts. Chicago is 18-41 in their last 59 games in Oakland.
I don’t like the odds on Chavez and an Athletics team that is struggling and will take my chances on the White Sox at the nice price.
