The Chicago Cubs look to stay on a roll with another win against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t their stride and that’s assuming they haven’t because that would be trouble. A spirited rally went for naught in Friday’s 11-10, 12 inning series opening loss at Wrigley Field that saw the Pirates come back from a 7-1 deficit. Starter Jeff Locke was charged with five runs on six hits and three BB over 3.1 frames with Jared Hughes giving up three more before Radhames Liz allowed the winner in the 12th.  The Buccos pounded out 15 hits and walked eight times with Francisco Cervelli driving in four followed by Andrew McCutchen who homered and drove in three. Josh Harrison homered and scored three times while Pedro Alvarez went deep and scored twice. The Pirates hand the ball to Gerrit Cole hoping he can even the series at Wrigley Field. Cole is coming off of a 4-3 win at Philadelphia where he allowed a pair of runs  on six hits and two BB in seven frames.

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates - 5/16/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Chicago Cubs are red hot and need to be to keep St Louis from running away from with the National League Central. The offense overcame poor work on the mound Friday for victory number five in a row. Kyle Hendricks allowed five runs on eight hits through 5.2 innings with Jason Motte and Pedro strop giving up two runs each before Hector Rondon allowed a run in the 9th to blow the save. Chicago racked up 15 hits and walked nine times that saw Kris Bryant smack a three run homer with Anthony Rizzo clubbing a two run jack. Matt Szczur knocked in three runs and every starter recorded at least one hit. Left hander Jon Lester shoots for his 5th consecutive quality start when he opposes Pittsburgh for the second time in his career. Lester comes off of a 4-3 decision against the Mets with three runs scored on five hits and four BB in six innings.

Pittsburgh are 8-3 in Cole’s last 11 road starts and are 26-10 in Cole’s last 36 starts while going 26-10 in his last 36 starts on grass. The under is 7-2-2 in the Cubs last 11 games as a favorite while Chicago are 6-16 in their last 22 Saturday games with the over going 13-5-1 in their last 19 Saturday games. This might be one to use caution with but I’ll back the better odds for a pick…
