The Miami Marlins look to end their series against the Atlanta Braves with a win Sunday.

The Atlanta Braves have been fading over the past few weeks and have been giving up ground in the National League East standings. After knocking off Miami 5-3 on Saturday the Bravos have won back to back contests. Early scoring and solid pitching carried the day with starter Alex Wood giving up two runs on seven hits and a pair of bases on balls keeping the lid on the Fish. The Braves hammered out 13 hits  with Jace Peterson clubbing a grand slam in the second with AJ Pierczynski driving in a run during a five run inning. Todd Cunningham and Cameron Maybin both recorded three hits and scored. The Braves turn to Shelby Miller Sunday who faces the Marlins for the third time in 2015. Miller has been outstanding in his first year with Miami where he has gone 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA in 45 innings.

Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves - 5/17/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Miami Marlins need to stop the bleeding soon or risk dropping further back in the National League East standings. Poor starting pitching and the failure to take advantage of scoring chances did the Marlins in Saturday which was their 7th loss in eleven contests. Starter Mat Latos has either been good or bad and was the latter with all five runs plated on eight hits through just three innings pitched while three relievers held Atlanta off the scoreboard over the final six innings. The Fish totaled ten hits and walked three times with Giancarlo Stanton going deep with Dee Gordon knocking in two runs. The Marlins will send Henderson Alvarez to the bump for his first start off of the disabled list. Before injuring his shoulder Alvarez had gone 0-2 with  a 4.50 ERA covering 12 innings pitched.

Atlanta are 3-10 in their last 13 road games and the over is 11-5-2 in their last 18 overall while going  11-5-2 in the Braves last 18 on grass. Miami are 7-3 in their last 10 home games while Atlanta are 37-18 in the last 55 meetings in Miami. I have no clue how far Alvarez is going to go so if I bet this it would be the Braves…
