The Houston Astros look to keep racking up the wins when the Oakland Athletics visit Monday.
The Oakland Athletics were one of the best teams in the game over the past several years but in 2015 the team has a different look as they attempt to dig their way out of the American League West basement. The digging continues after the Athletics dropped a 7-3 decision to the White Sox. Starter Scott Kazmir gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a trio of free passes over 4.1 frames to fall to 2-2. The A’s posted eight hits and walked three times with Maxwell Muncy clubbing a two run homer with Billy Burns going 3-4 with a run while Marcus Semian logging a pair of singles. Left hander Drew Pomeranz looks to cool off Houston when he opens the series on the mound Monday. Pomeranz has seven 2015 starts to his credit where he has gone 2-3 with a 4.42 ERA over 38.2 frames.

The Houston Astros are in an unfamiliar position at this point in the season as in first in the American League West. The Astros seem to have recovered from a recent slowdown to post five consecutive victories following a 4-2 win against visiting Toronto to record a series sweep. Starter Collin McHugh improved to 5-1 with both runs allowed on six hits while striking out nine through seven innings. The Astros only had six hits and two walks but Colby Rasmus and Luis Valbuena slammed solo homers with while Jonathan Villar doubled twice with an RBI and run. The Astros have called up Lance McCullers from AAA Fresno to make his major league debut against Oakland. In six Double-A appearances McCullers was 3-1 with a 0.62 ERA over 29 innings.
The over is 9-3-2 in Oakland’s last 14 road games while the Athletics are 7-19 in their last 26 overall and 7-19 in their last 26 games on grass. Houston are 20-7 in their last 27 overall and are 20-7 in their last 27 games on grass. The over is 18-7 in the last 25 meetings in Houston while Oakland are 17-7 in the last 24 meetings in Houston. This is an interesting match up and the question is whether the hot team with the rookie hurler can get the job done…
